Windows 7 End of Life

Microsoft has announced the Windows 7 End of Life date. From 14 January 2020, it will cease to update or support the Windows 7 operating system.

If your business is one of the 38.5% of global organisations still using Windows 7 as your primary operating system*, we recommend that you update before the End of Life date.

Since 2015, Windows 7  has been in the ‘extended support phase’ which means that it doesn’t receive new features and warranty claims are no longer valid. Crucially, however, Microsoft continues to update and patch the software. But, from 14 January next year, Microsoft will remove all support and no longer make essential updates to fix security issues and bugs.

While you will be able to continue using Windows 7 beyond its End of Life date, we strongly advise against this. Without the necessary security updates to your operating system, your business will be vulnerable to any new viruses or security problems. Also, we anticipate that cyber criminals will specifically target Windows 7 as they’ll know they can exploit its vulnerability.

Even a single PC running Windows 7 is a security risk to your entire IT network.

Upgrading to Windows 10 not only offers you better IT security but will give you a modern operating system with numerous efficiency benefits. Also, Microsoft plans to make Windows 10 the ‘last’ Windows. You won’t ever need to upgrade to a new operating system again. Incremental updates will happen behind the scenes without significant upheaval and with no costly and challenging upgrades.

If your business is still using Windows 7, we can prepare you for Windows 7 End of Life and determine the best strategy to migrate to Windows 10. To find out more, please call us on 01392 207194 or email us.
