The team at Bluegrass Group set themselves a challenge to run or walk 1000 miles throughout February all to raise money for a well-deserving local cause. The Feed our Community project ran by Maia Thomas in Exeter was set up early this year to support families who were struggling financially due to the impact of the global pandemic. Since January 2021, over 2000 food parcels have been delivered to families across Devon. Maia has also been running Zoom classes to support families with budgeting tips and advice so they can support themselves long term.
Staff at Bluegrass Group came up with the idea primarily to support their own mental health during this third lockdown, by encouraging each other to get outdoors, increase their exercise and share a team goal. But once they heard about the wonderful local work Maia was doing with the Feed Our Community project, they were keen to support her efforts. They aimed to raise £500 throughout February by collectively hitting their 1000 miles, however local company VRAMP Internal Communications then offered to double this amount on successful completion.
Together they successfully hit their 1000 mile target two days early on 26th February – giving themselves a well deserved break on the final weekend.
To date a whopping £1190 has now been raised.
Maia Thomas comments: ‘It’s been fantastic to have a local company show this kind of support for this project. Their donation is really going to make a huge difference to those who need it and having spoken with all the team at Bluegrass Group I know how determined they were to hit that 1000 mile target to raise as much as they could. I’m so grateful for their support.’
