Advantages of using VoIP for your business

The are many benefits of using VoIP for your business. Before we highlight what they are, we’ll explain what VoIP for your business is.

What is VoIP?

VoIP stands for Voice Over Internet Protocol. It is an IP-enabled service that allows you to make voice calls using a broadband Internet connection instead of a regular (or analogue) phone line.

How does VoIP work?

VoIP takes analogue audio signals and turns them into digital data which it transmits over the Internet. It can use a standard internet connection to allow you to make free phone calls.

There are three main types of VoIP phones:

1. ATA phones

An ‘analogue telephone adaptor’ converts your current standard phone system to VoIP.  This option is ideal if you don’t wish to change your current phone setup.

2. Softphones

A softphone is a software application that is installed on your computer, tablet, or smartphone and allows you to make phone calls from that device.

3. IP Phones

IP phones look and function like regular phones but have an Ethernet port that allows you to connect the phone directly to your router. These are the most expensive option.

  2. Portability – you can make and receive phone calls wherever you have a broadband connection simply by signing in to your VoIP account.
  3. Business continuity – if you don’t have access to your office for any reason, for example in the event of a disaster, you can still make and receive calls.
  4. Scalability – you can easily add or remove people to your VoIP account so you can scale it to your business needs.
  5. Conferencing options – more than two people can be on the same call, and you can also use video conferencing.
